Mother's day CHEATER!!!

Happy belated Mother's Day ladies!! What a GREAT weekend full of family, laughs and of course, FOOD!!! This was a tough weekend for me and the scale never lies. I'll be honest and say that I totally did not stick to the diet as planned but I'm allowed a cheat day for Mother's Day!! :)

Early morning Sunday I asked my hubby to go on a jog with me just because I knew what was in store for the remainder of the day. EATING!! My husband and son treated me to a brunch buffet at Tiki's here in Waikiki and the food was THEBOMB.COM!!! Wow, I was definitely in food heaven for the afternoon. It was super yummy but I knew I would pay for it later.

So here I am, Monday morning with even more determination to get back on track. Mother's day was fun while it lasted but its time to kick it up a few notches. My husband and I and our son have begun a nightly routine of running/walking the Ala Wai here in Waikiki. I love it! Its so much easier and fun to do it as a family. My son loves to run and I think he has become my motivation. He says "let's go guys" as he runs. Its so cute!

Let's keep the momentum going and Rock out this week. I'm 14 pounds down and hoping for 6 more by the 22nd which is my 27th birthday. 20 by 22nd!! That's the goal. Get errrrr DONE!!!

1+1=2 Counting Calories!

I had gone to a few party's over the weekend and over indulged just a tad in all the good foods. This is super easy to do especially now that summer is right around the corner. This week I've gotten back into the swing of things and yesterday was the best day yet. For my weight loss I'm using calorie counting as my basis.

I downloaded the app MYFITNESSPAL (myfitnesspal.com) and it has made this process much more simple to follow. You can track the foods your eating, kinda like a food journal. You can type in whatever food you eat and it will give you the calorie amount. It also tracks your weight and will let you know what calorie intake you should follow to lose weight. Everyone has a number, mine is around 1300 but I try to stay around 1000-1200 everyday. Here is a quick sample of some of the foods I eat on a daily. I interchange them as much as possible to keep my food choices interesting but here goes..

Breakfast: I'm not a big breakfast eater so this is usually my lightest meal. I do however try to find things that are low calories and filling such as oatmeal. I add fruits like bananas or apples. Whatever your taste is. I also try to add in at least a few spoon fulls of Greek yogurt. Its great for you and a really great substitute for mayo or cream cheese and also sour cream. Ive read that it speeds your metabolism too if eaten first thing in the morning. So all of that will usually be around 200 calories. If you love breakfast, add some toast, add some egg whites with salsa, add whatever you like but look for  low calorie substitutes and stay within your calories!!

Lunch: I think this is my favorite meal. lol For as long as I can remember I have always LOVED turkey sandwiches. My family will tell you that if ever we ate out growing up, I would always order a club sand which. Its just sooo yummy. I use Orrowwheat sand which thins for my bread which has only 100 calories for both slices. STAY AWAY FROM WHITE BREAD!!!! I also use Kirkland turkey from Costco which has 60 calories for two slices. I don't use mayo but sometimes I'll add fage greek yogurt and mustard. I almost always put srirracha hot sauce because I love the spice. lol I add a heaping amount of lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and any other veggies available. You can make a HUGE sand which for around 200 calories!! I'll also add a fruit and some veggie straws. If your a chip freak like me, veggie straws are sooo good. In a serving bag of veggie straws there are 130 calories. Great substitute! DRINK, DRINK, DRINK, and DRINK more WATER!!! I cant stress enough how much this will help. Its cleans you out and you will see such a huge difference.

Dinner: This is a tough one only because I have to cook dinner for the hubby and son so its a little more challenging to calorie count. I have cut out white rice all together, in fact I haven't even bought a bag for over a month. That is a huge change for us since we previously would eat it with EVERY dinner. I look for meals that consist of alot of veggies and low sodium. I will cook chicken curry with chicken breast which is really good. I will also make a big salad and cook a side veggie like spinach or corn, or asparagus. I'll usually just make a big salad with meat, salad, and veggies. It works for me but there are tons of low calorie recipes online and best of all, for FREE! Find recipes tat are similar to what you already eat. It helps.

Snacks: I have a sweet tooth like no other, Its terrible!! If I need my ice cream fix (which is almost every night) I eat healthy choice 100 calorie fudge bars. These are sooo good, no lie. I also eat fiber one bars to get that chocolate bar fix and also it really does help regulate me if ya know what I mean. lol There are so many different 100 calorie snack options out there. Just choose wisely and don't over indulge.

There you go, a day in the life of what I eat. Try to make good choices every meal the best you can. Its worth it, and you get results fast!! In 2.5 weeks I am down 12 pounds!! I have my good days and definitely have my BAD days but I know what I want to achieve and I'm not giving up this time. Please feel free to leave your comments, suggestions, or questions. We are in this together!!!

Thick Chick WHO?

So here I am on the brink of turning 27, a mother to a CRAZY 3 year old little guy, and a wife to an OH-SO proud hearted island boy. My life is typical I guess. My brain on the other hand, not so much. I created this blog to chronicle my life and put to pen thoughts I don't often get to share. I'm a busy mom and wife and sometimes I think that I do tend to lose sight of myself, as most moms do i'm sure. I want what most women want. I want to be happy, I want to be appreciated, and I want to be loved. This sounds simple but if i'm not happy on the inside, if I don't appreciate and love myself, how can I expect others too?

I'm not sure if my impending birthday has anything to do with this but i'm on a mission to shrink this growing waist of mine. After giving birth to my son I have found it to be extremely difficult to take care of my body. If anyone knows me, they know I love anything to do with clothes, makeup, fashion, etc. Before I become a mother, I promised myself I would never be that frumpy soccer mom, rolling around in my mini van. (you know exactly what i'm talking about ladies!!) I don't own a mini van, and I wouldn't necessarily consider myself frumpy, but i'm definitely no fashion icon as I had once invisioned my life.

You know what it is, its about feeling comfortable in your own skin. I know i'll never be a size zero, nor do I have any desire to be. I do however want to feel good again about my body. I look back at pictures from my early 20's and i'm always pining over THAT body as if it was never mine to begin with. Every woman has body issues, every woman has insecurities, but its about finding your balance.

I've always been the "thick-chick." Never skinny but never SUPER overweight. I've just started a new journey of weight loss. I've tried a million times before to lose weight and have failed because I have always sought the easy way, the quick fix, the magic weight loss pill, etc. I'm starting fresh with healthy eating, better food choices, and light-medium exercise. Its true when they say, less is more. What a concept right? Who knew eating healthy and taking a stroll around the block could actually work?

I'm no health expert or dietician. I'm definitely not anywhere near thin but this is my journey and these are my thoughts.
